The "Tyre" cost centre and how to control it

Tyres account for between 1.7% and 2.7% of the cost price of a heavy goods vehicle, according to CNR. These are only direct costs, and do not incorporate the detrimental effects that a poor choice or poor use of tyres may have on certain mechanical parts which will wear prematurely, or on fuel consumption. To optimise the tyre cost centre in a haulier’s budget, a few basic rules should be observed.
