Electric LCVs, the solution to urban logistics challenges
The talk today is about last-yard delivery with a continuing environmental consideration: taking goods into city centres without polluting. Today, there is a comprehensive range of electric LCVs and these vehicles are proven in service. The new generation is gradually arriving on the market with batteries which are easier to charge. Carriers, particularly in the parcel delivery sector, are buying fleets of electric vehicles for exclusively urban use.
In parallel, the arrival of these new eco-friendly vehicles has necessitated new organisational methods in transport companies, since electric power means greater flexibility (more autonomy) and increased access to city environments (night-time deliveries, etc.). New logistics issues have emerged both for carriers and shippers.
In the presence of leading supply chain stakeholders, at SOLUTRANS 2019 we will attempt to look into the near future and list the challenges of these new urban logistics.
